Our Search for a New Home
This simple blog will cover our journey as we look to move to a new home. We are pretty much starting from scratch, well almost, we have looked just a bit.
Something about us with respect to A Home From Scratch: a joyfully married couple of 25+ years, in our mid-fifties to early-sixties, kids grown and gone (to Philadelphia, to Brooklyn), living in the suburban Philadelphia township of Upper Gwynedd, Pennsylvania (mailing address Lansdale).
And, something about our home: a typical (if there is such a thing) suburban home; 4 bedroom colonial, front dining room and living room, open family room and kitchen, bedrooms upstairs, finished basement, quarter acre or so. We’ve lived here 20 years. Wow, time flies. At this point, us being emptynesters, our house seems too big and our yard seems especially too big.
This isn’t the first time we have considered moving. Once the kids had moved on or were about to, we considered moving but didn’t. Instead we remodeled our kitchen (see A Kitchen Remodel, my blog about the process).
What do we hope to find and make? Ah, the fun part of this journey! Some basic requirements:
- Close enough to the immediate Lansdale area because we have family here
- Close enough to a SEPTA train station to allow a minimal commute preceding the train ride to center city Philadelphia.
- A little luxury with a really nice kitchen
- Convenient to shopping and things to do
So, off we go!
